GAME (WINNER, BEST FILMINUTE 2007)
DIRECTOR: Kristina Grozeva
BULGARIA

Although there were many I wanted to vote for, Game stood out in its simplicity and its power.

I watched this film at least 10 times. That boy captured all the joy of football. In that one minute, we are in there, in that game. Radiant and expressive delivery by the main character.

Talk about an inspirational leader. This young man has enough game for an entire league. I loved the boy’s passion and enthusiasm.

MISSING
(WINNER, PEOPLE’S CHOICE 2007)
DIRECTOR: Siddartha Jatla
INDIA

Beautiful... and so true not just in India.

In three takes, the filmmaker manages to lead us into a poor, socially underprivileged milieu and to plead against children marriage in India – information that comes, like a punch line, in an insert at the end.
– Jury

I appreciate the Director's effort in elevating such sensitive emotions quite neatly

ABOUT TIME (JURY COMMENDATION)
DIRECTOR: Catalin Leescu
ROMANIA

This film says so much. We watched it over and over and love the meaning and messages imbedded

We are so moved by About Time. I saw an oppressive regime apologize for its brutality. Rob saw a reward for struggling in life.

Gripping, multi-dimensional and of semi-epic proportions
– Jury

IN A CIRCUS (JURY COMMENDATION)
DIRECTOR: Pablo & Gabriel Nicoli
ARGENTINA

wow, that gave me goose bumps. so sad

I guess no one knows where life is leading you in the end... and you realize that all it's been was... sadness and the desire for a better life! I think I will enjoy more and give a big kiss and hug to my dad when I get home :)

To condense the not-at-all-pleasant life of an old man to sixty seconds, and to leave you with the feeling that you got to know him, deserves respect.
– Jury

EGG LOVE (JURY COMMENDATION)
DIRECTOR: Zach Math / Jonah Bekhor
CANADA

A quirky classic that sticks in your mind long after the action has faded to black
– Jury

HAHAHAHA. This is just PERFECT!!!! Really amazing sense of irony and style.

Kept me close to the edge. Love the frying pan and butter.

FUN TIME (JURY COMMENDATION)
DIRECTOR: Aleksey Andrianov
RUSSIA

Hard and beautiful video

A mesmerizing one-minute film. Without take anything away from the originality of this director, this film is a splash of Tarantino and a splash of The Godfather.
– Jury

Most impressively, the filmmakers manage to effectively experiment with time structure despite how little time the actually had to work with
– EYE WEEKLY

ONE MINUTE GUIDE TO PLANET EARTH (JURY COMMENDATION)
DIRECTOR: Armen Antranikian
GERMANY / UK

I LOVE this film. From beginning to end — scratch that, from beginning until far past the end - I am entranced. Visually, mentally stimulated, drawn to the voice (great voice, rushed yet clear and meaningfully paced)

How refreshing to find such a delightfully off-beat guide to a place we could all use a bit more perspective on!
– Jury

An appropriately titled little film that attempts to tackle subject matter that is way beyond the possibilities of a one-minute short. Unsurprisingly, the filmmakers fail to shed new light on the state of the planet and the human condition. However, the observations they do make are precise, concise, and delivered with such good humour that it’s hard to complain.
– EYE WEEKLY

ACROFOBIA
DIRECTOR: Raul Taciu
ROMANIA

Thank you for your imaginative, magical, and beautiful creation.

An artful blend of mystery, motion and invention that delights and captivates. It’s a masterpiece in miniature.
– Jury

I know this guy who made it; we finished the Art Academy together. It's an incredible piece of art. He had the patience of doing it for about six months. All by himself. Stop motion rulz!!!

AIR PLUGS
DIRECTOR: Elena Wen
USA

"that's genius. Modern poetry."

“This surreal animation allows the audience to make various interpretation. Do they need air plugs to stay on the ground?”
– Jury

"Cool, It reminds me of the man who opens the blinds at my local pizza shop, cranking that handle with nothing much to say."

CELEBRATE
DIRECTOR: Christian Anderson-Ramshall / Adam Watson
UK

Nice short. Excellent mood and effects on a subject that needs to be debated before we all turn into something other than human!

I really enjoyed the production value of this piece. But I also felt as though the piece was up for many interpretations...my perspective was that she was almost a mechanical being trying find her humanity...but realizing she will never be. She encourages others to celebrate their humanity?

I really appreciated the style, and the fresh discourse in the monologue.

DAVE FOLEY AND FANS
DIRECTOR: Brian Smith
CANADA

well done, lads! you deserve a Gemini for this.

I love it! Very funny. ps: What are these German eyes?"

Out of all of these, I have to laugh at this one. Wanna vote for it, just because of that. Know it has no big message, know it doesn't change our worlds, doesnt improve, explain. But it made me laugh and I like that guy.

DEDICATION
DIRECTOR: Geoff Browne
CANADA

Combines compelling, stark natural beauty with the yearnings of the human spirit - compressing the eternal quest of mankind into a 60-second narrative.
– Jury

An epic in 60-seconds – unbelievable!

sage gave this film 5 stars
sage says: the sound is great
judah says: that's scary. why didn't he take food?

FIRST BLOOM
DIRECTOR: Midi Onodera
CANADA

Black humour. True to life.

Great writing, made better by the strangely captivating visual composition and tourist chatter.

This work has a unique composition of image. The small image window does not show visual details of the old couple, and simple but funny monologue in text stimulates the audience's imagination about the couple.
– Jury

GLOBAL WARMING VACATION
DIRECTOR: Zale Dalen
CANADA / CHINA

Very thought provoking! It seems subtle at first, then you realize you're being hit over the head. Good work! – Proon C.

Making a link between our attitudes (personal/local) to the big issue (global) all within one minute. Nicely done!

A grotesque vision of our world in the age of a global warming, concentrated on two sweating young men standing before an ac and finding out that there's no other place to survive the heat. This is a beautiful idea, appropriate to a one minute dramaturgy, with an absurd dialogue illuminating that there's no way out.
– Jury

GRAHAM
DIRECTOR: Paul Scott-James
NEW ZEALAND

We have all felt exactly like this at times. The clock hand struggling to move is a triumph! - Joanne, Moscow

This piece is what The Office might be like if Mike Judge cast Beavis as a corporate desk jockey. A cautionary tale for any cube dweller!
– Jury

"Not a Mac fan, HA? "

LE FIL ROUGE
DIRECTOR: Yasuko Tadokoro
JAPAN / FRANCE / CANADA

Knowing the other and meeting the other, story of everyone. Superbe.

The pace and the voice with it is so peaceful. The red-string. I waited since I was a little girl and it is true you feel it when the time is right. Happiness IS right in front of us.

Le concept, les couleurs, la narration... C'est tellement romantique.

MATCHMAKER
DIRECTOR: Niko Stumpo
NETHERLANDS

This is the one film where the director has built an ENTIRE world. The amount of detail, characters, and miniature stories told inside this world is astounding.

Sweet and simple story expertly realised; technically polished, artistically charming, neat and graphically inspired. Uplifting guide for our days. – D. Allen

judah says: it is great for the environment.

PASHIZ
DIRECTOR: Mahmood Nuri
IRAN

so true. good story development and conclusion.

Great film… A familiar enough allegory set against an unfamiliar backdrop.

I used to hitchhike from my hometown to where I studied 4 years. This situation sucks, but it's also fun at the same time. Really nice.

PIG
DIRECTOR: Ross Newell
UK / SPAIN

A twisted spin on what could be normality - fantastic!

Very nice. Almost Bunuel. With a Tales of The Unexpected feel.

Good to see a film with a bit of dark humour. Quirky, in true Fruit Loop Productions style... like it A LOT.

POETIC MECHANICS
DIRECTOR: Florin Piersic jr.
ROMANIA

A more poetic science lesson than I’ve ever had the pleasure of taking.

Great and unexpected juxtaposition: the natural laws of motion set against a lazy, playful summer scene.
– Jury

“love the fly!”

POLAR BEARS
DIRECTOR: Eskimo Productions
AUSTRALIA

Really nice work. Subtle statement. Great performance. The kind of thing that gets better with more than one viewing.

Simply ironic and funny! Good voice acting too.
– Jury

It amuses and reassures me that Australians make films about polar bears. It will raise awareness of climate change.

SOLDIERS
DIRECTOR: Hillman Curtis
USA

powerful, leaves open more than one interpretation, each of which is relevant and thought provoking. great job.

"It really made me cry."

If we were separated during our lives, we are that in death as well. The honouring of quiteness and emptyness.

TENNIS PLAYERS
DIRECTOR: Tobias Nölle
SWITZERLAND

Beautiful shots, lively character, and an amazing ending which I never saw coming.

lovely concept.. really great!

A bit of silliness to pass the time. I liked it.

TERO TALKS WITH HIS DAD
DIRECTOR: Jukka Kärkkäinen
FINLAND

I found the simplicity of this film refreshing. It was natural, but there was depth to the silence and the generational relationship between dad and son. It was in my top 5.

A great example of a Finnish male conversation on a sensitive subject, disguised by the easyness of an icehockey game.

" Kärpät is Iron! "

TWO POINTS
DIRECTOR: Bogdan Dumitrescu
ROMANIA

The little girl is impossible to forget!

foarte frumos realizat

this was so stylish and so filmic
